How Telegram Verification Works in HobbyTS

What Telegram verification is for

For organisers, Telegram is the main HobbyTS publishing flow: it verifies the contact shown with your event and lets you share the event with the community channel.

Verification is not required to sign in or browse events. You can use Google, Apple, or email for your HobbyTS account.

To post an event to the HobbyTS Telegram community, you need a verified Telegram contact with a public username.

If you do not use Telegram, you can publish only to the in-app feed when your profile has another visible organiser contact. HobbyTS will show a profile link instead of a Telegram username.

What HobbyTS receives from Telegram

When you verify, Telegram shares only:

Your Telegram ID, first name, last name, and username
Your profile photo

HobbyTS never receives your chats, contacts, phone number, or password.

What gets posted to Telegram

Nothing is posted automatically. HobbyTS never sends messages to your chats, contacts, or groups.

The only time anything goes to Telegram is when you, as an organiser, explicitly choose to post your event to the community channel at publish time. That is your decision — it is not automatic.

Step 1. Start verification

From your profile: Go to Profile → Contacts and tap Verify and add Telegram contact.

When creating an event: If you choose to post to the Telegram community but have not yet verified, HobbyTS will prompt you before publishing.

In both cases a sheet opens explaining what will happen. Tap Continue with Telegram.

Step 2. What you see depends on how you opened HobbyTS

HobbyTS redirects to Telegram's own authorisation page. What happens next depends on your situation:

Opening HobbyTS in a regular browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.): Telegram's page opens and asks you to enter your phone number and country to identify your account. This is Telegram's standard login form — HobbyTS has no control over it. After entering your number, Telegram sends a confirmation code to your Telegram app. Enter the code to confirm.

Opening HobbyTS inside the Telegram app: Telegram already knows who you are. No phone number is needed — Telegram simply sends a confirmation message inside the app. Tap Accept to confirm.

Step 3. Return to HobbyTS

After confirming, you are automatically returned to HobbyTS. A brief "Connecting Telegram..." screen appears, then your verified Telegram contact is added to your profile.

If you were in the middle of creating an event, your draft resumes automatically and you can continue publishing.

Troubleshooting

I did not receive a confirmation in Telegram — make sure Telegram is installed and you entered the phone number linked to your Telegram account. Try again from the start.

Verification is not completing — the session expires after 10 minutes. If you waited too long, start the flow again.

I verified with the wrong Telegram account — go to Profile → Contacts, remove the Telegram contact, and redo the steps with the correct account.

Error: "You need a public Telegram username" — set a public username in Telegram first: Settings → Username.

Error: "This Telegram account is already linked to another user" — contact t.me/hobbyts911.

FAQ

Is Telegram required to sign in to HobbyTS?

No. Sign-in uses Google, Apple, or email. Telegram is a separate contact you add to your profile.

Why does Telegram ask for my phone number?

Telegram uses your phone number to identify your account when you are not already signed into Telegram in that browser. This is Telegram's own form — HobbyTS never sees your phone number.

Can I remove Telegram from my profile later?

Yes. Go to Profile → Contacts and delete the Telegram contact. Your HobbyTS account is not affected.

Will HobbyTS post anything to my Telegram automatically?

No. HobbyTS never posts to your chats or contacts automatically.

Do I need a public Telegram username?

Yes. Telegram verification requires your account to have a public username. Set one in Telegram under Settings → Username.
